Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence … and special powers. She’s unloved by her parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the loveable Miss Honey.
Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules.
But, Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace.
Matilda, Jr. is a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination. Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, the musical is a joyous romp, telling the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.
Inspired by Roald Dahl’s beloved story Matilda, with book by Denis Kelly and original songs by Tim Minchin, Matilda the Musical is the winner of more than 100 international awards including 24 for Best Musical.
Matilda the Musical is currently the 15th longest running show in West End history. In 2013, the musical opened on Broadway, where it played through 2017 for a total of 1,555 performances, followed by a US national tour between 2015 and 2017.
