Brian Smith, 65, passed away peacefully at his home in Galion on June 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving children after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.
Born in Pikeville, Kentucky, on August 6, 1959, Brian was the son of Woodrow and Eva (Clark) Smith. He spent his formative years in the Lexington and Galion, Ohio areas, graduating in 1978 from Northmor High School and Pioneer Joint Vocational School, where he studied horticulture—a passion that would remain with him throughout his life.
Brian had a deep love for nature and a remarkable talent for creating beauty with his hands. Whether tending to his vibrant gardens, nurturing his houseplants, or crafting handmade treasures, he found joy in the simple, meaningful things. He cherished quiet mornings on the patio with a cup of coffee, watching the birds visit, and he often reminisced about fishing trips with his father and brothers—memories he held close to his heart.
A true music lover, Brian found comfort and joy in the sounds of classic rock, especially Lynyrd Skynyrd and Fleetwood Mac. He was known for his sense of humor, his warm spirit, and his signature dance move—the unforgettable “Beasly Boogie.”
Above all, Brian was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. His unconditional love, generous heart, and unwavering support for his loved ones will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children: Sarah Smith of Mansfield, Josh Smith of Galion, and Jordan Smith of Bucyrus; grandchildren: Austin (Caylee) Norwood, Alex Norwood, Dezmond Briggs, Izabella Smith, Madden Tesso, Richard Fisher-Smith, Brendon Ronk, Rowan Smith, and Lake Smith; and great-grandchildren: Carter Norwood, Myla Norwood, Kingston Smith, Salem Briggs, and Max Norwood; son-in-law Shawn Trammell, daughter-in-law Hayley (Spafford) Smith. He is also survived by his brothers Randy (Vickie) Smith of Mansfield, Woody Smith of Galion, and lifelong best friend Carl Carpenter.
Along with his parents, Brian was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Jaclyn “Jackie” Ronk; siblings Gaye Bogner, Gail Smith-Rinehart, Danny Smith, and Perry Smith; and his loyal canine companion, Brownie.
Brian’s legacy of love, laughter, and creativity will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A gathering of family and friends to honor and remember Brian will be held on July 11, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Ohio Cremation & Memorial Society, 9 Chambers Rd., Ontario.
