Glenna M. McCoy, age 96, a former resident of Shelby passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Firelands Hospital in Sandusky, surrounded by her loving family.
Born May 1, 1929, in Tiro to Lester E. and Minnie K. (Eckstein) Smith, she was a lifelong area resident and a 1947 graduate of Tiro. She worked for 32 years at the Shelby YMCA as a Preschool Teachers Aide. Glenna enjoyed playing cards, sewing & embroidery, and attending her grandchildren’s and great- grandchildren’s activities. She was an involved member of the Loss Creek Lutheran Church then Shelby First Lutheran Church where she enjoyed teaching Teenage Sunday School classes. Glenna was currently a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Norwalk, Ohio.
Survivors include her children, David (Vickie) McCoy of Columbus and Larry (Carol) McCoy of Huron; five grandchildren Heather McCoy, Jason (Tiffany) McCoy, Steven (Sandy) McCoy, Amy (Jason) Cecil, and Kelly (Adam) Kochendoerfer; ten great-grandchildren Camden McCoy, Kelsey McCoy, Lacey McCoy, Raegan McCoy, Katie Cecil, Jackson Cecil, Kyle Kochendoerfer, Rachel Kochendoerfer, Jonas Kochendoerfer, and Quinn Kochendoerfer; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James H. McCoy Sr. whom she wed on September 28, 1952; son James H. McCoy Jr.; four sisters Esther Smith, Mildred (Earl) Copeland, Miriam (Paul) Stoodt, Ruby (Robert) Schimpf; and brothers Earl (Arlene) Smith and Roger (Rose) Smith.
Friends and family may visit the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby Friday, June 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A graveside service will be held following visitation at 12:30 PM in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Pastor Phil Gardener and Chaplain Andrea Mericle will officiate.
