BUTLER: Ruth Elizabeth Reeder passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. She was 98.
She was born on February 27, 1927 in Fredericktown, Ohio to parents Leland and Florance (Robinson) Ebersole. After graduating high school, Ruth pursued a rewarding career as a beautician, working at several salons over the course of 50 years, with the majority of her time spent at the beloved Swank Beauty Shop in Fredericktown.
One day while working at Islay’s Ice Cream Shop, Ruth met the love of her life, Herple Reeder, while he was home on leave and the two spent the next three years writing letters to each other. On June 29, 1946 the couple was wed in Greenup, Kentucky and spent the next 61 years creating a beautiful life together until his passing in 2007. They are now reunited together once again in Heaven.
Ruth lived a full and vibrant life, wearing many hats and excelling in everything she set her mind to. She was a dedicated member of The Order of the Eastern Star for 50 years. In her spare time Ruth cherished playing cards with her family as well as her time spent knitting, tatting, and even spinning her own wool. She was a talented cook and baker, renowned for her homemade pies that delighted family and friends alike. Alongside her husband, she owned and operated the H&R Restaurant in Butler, Ohio, and was an active member of the PA Rinehart Muzzle Loader Club, where they participated in countless rendezvous. Ruth’s industrious nature also saw her working at her parents’ business, Ebersole’s Butcher Shop, and later as a bookkeeper at the 97 Plaza Truck Stop. Despite her many accomplishments, her greatest joy came from her family. Ruth’s love for her family was unparalleled; she always kept a photo of each loved one close at hand during phone calls, a testament to the deep connections she held dear.
She is survived by her loving children Phil (Freddie Lou) Reeder and Rebecca (Mike) Eicher, grandchildren Jim (Erin) Reeder, Andrew Reeder, Jeff (Joy) Reeder, Cindy Price, Jason (Heather) Coey, Jessica (Luke) Hodge, Michelle (Donny) Smith, and Heather (Donny) Rohr, brother Robert (Betty) Ebersole, sister-in-law Judy Ebersole, 19 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren with two more on the way, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and four sisters.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 11:15 am in Bunkerhill Cemetery.
