MANSFIELD — The Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association confirmed what area fans already knew.
Lexington’s Makaree Chapman and Madison’s Caliyah Clapper are among the best pitchers in the state.
Chapman was selected to the All-Ohio first team in Division IV, while Clapper was a second-teamer in Division III.
A senior left-hander bound for Northern Kentucky, Chapman led Lady Lex to the state semifinals this spring. She was 24-4 with 1.11 earned run average and 267 strikeouts in 150.1 innings of work.
Just a freshman, Clapper piloted the Rams to a regional runner-up finish. She was 17-7 with a a save, boasted a 1.82 ERA and struck out 202 in 146 innings.
Ontario’s Edie Howard and Ellie Dawson both earned All-Ohio citations in Division IV. Howard was a second-teamer after hitting .437 with eight doubles, six home runs and 25 runs batted in. A freshman, Dawson was an honorable-mention selection after batting .431 with six doubles, 10 homers and 34 RBIs.
Crestview’s P.J. Endicott was a first-team pick in Division V. The senior catcher batted .481 with eight doubles, three triples, six home runs and 35 RBIs.
