LEXINGTON — It took the Lexington girls’ softball team more than two decades to return to the state’s Final Four.

It will take knocking off an undefeated opponent for Lady Lex to make it another step.

Lexington (24-3) will take on perennial power Springfield Kenton Ridge (30-0) in a Division IV state semifinal game Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Akron Firestone Stadium.

The winner will play either Cortland Lakeview (22-4) or Hillsboro (22-3) in the state championship game Thursday at 3 p.m. in Akron.

The OHSAA on Sunday evening released all of the state semifinal matchups in all divisions.

Lexington won its regional title with a 6-1 win over Bryan on Friday at Clyde’s Joe Wilson Field.

Kenton Ridge, which lost in the state semifinals last year, claimed its 2025 regional title on Saturday with an 11-1 win over Newark Licking Valley in a game played at Mason High School.

According to the Springfield News-Sun, the Cougars won a regional championship for the eighth time — 2025, 2024, 2013, 2003, 2002, 1999, 1998, 1997.

Kenton Ridge has finished as state runner-up four times — 2013, 2003, 2002, 1999.

Kenton Ridge won a D-II regional championship last season before falling to eventual state champion Canfield in a state semifinal.

This year, the Cougars moved to D-IV as the OHSAA expanded to seven divisions for its postseason softball tournament, the News-Sun reported.
