Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Christensen passed away Saturday, May 24, 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born November 10, 1961 in Columbus to the late Lloyd Edward and Noreen Anne (Nelson) Young. She was a 1978 graduate of Lexington High School.
Kathy was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt — roles she embraced with her whole heart. On May 17, 1985, she married the love of her life, Jorgen “Bo” Christensen. This year, they celebrated 40 years of marriage — four decades filled with love, laughter, and a legacy of kindness that touched everyone around them.
Kathy’s greatest joy in life was her family. She poured her heart into raising her children and grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, where sweet treats were always waiting, lovingly prepared by “Grandma Kathy.” Her presence was a comfort, her cookies a tradition.
She could often be found with a book in hand, quietly reading while watching hummingbirds flutter nearby, or sitting poolside with the kids — always reading, always near. Her love for books became a family passion, one she nurtured and passed down through generations.
Kathy also cherished their home away from home in Naples, Florida, where countless beachside memories were made with those she loved most.
She was a courageous breast cancer survivor, whose strength carried her through life’s greatest challenges. Over the past year, she faced immunotherapy induced interstitial lung disease with the same grace and determination. In her final days, she was surrounded by love, memory, and peace — a testament to the beautiful life she created. She fought fiercely to stay with her family, and now, she can finally rest, knowing she gave them the very best of herself.
Kathy is survived by her beloved husband, Bo; her loving children, Daniel (Laurann) Young, Andrea (Tim) Sigler and James (Karissa) Christensen. Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Taylor James; Abigail and Isabelle Christensen; Jamison, Camden, and Brenton Young; and Alexander and Serena Sigler.
She also leaves behind her loving sister and best friend who offered unwavering support and care, Debra (Joe) Moritz; dear nephews, Joseph (Liz) Moritz, Bryan (Emily) Moritz, and Shawn (Emma) Moritz; sister-in-law Lisa Young; and nephew and niece Tyler (Amy) Young and Alyssa Young. Kathy remained close to her husband’s family in Denmark and held deep connections with many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Young.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nursing staff at Primrose Retirement Community and Hospice of the Western Reserve. Thanks to their care, Kathy was able to spend her final days at home, surrounded by family and love.
The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is honored to assist Kathy’s family with private funeral services. Graveside services will be held in Shauck Cemetery. A Life Celebration service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to your favorite local library.
