MOUNT VERNON — A Centerburg man was killed after a one-vehicle crash early Monday morning, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Zachary White, 32, of Centerburg, was pronounced deceased after being transported to Knox Community Hospital by Mount Vernon Fire/EMS.
White was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Ryan Carlisle, 35, of Centerburg. Carlisle suffered minor injuries and was also transported to Knox Community Hospital.
The incident took place at approximately 12:51 a.m. on State Route 229 near milepost 7 in Clinton Township of Knox County.
According to the Patrol, Carlisle was operating a 2016 Ram 3500 westbound on State Route 229. The vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, went off the right side of the road and struck several utility poles. White was the front-seat passenger.
Authorities reported that alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Vernon Police Department, and Mount Vernon Fire/EMS.
