GALION — Madyson Taylor delivered the biggest hit of the season Tuesday afternoon.
Lexington’s No. 9 hitter, Taylor laced a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth as top-seeded Lady Lex rallied for a 2-1 win over No. 4 Ontario in the opening game of a Division IV district semifinal doubleheader at Galion.
Lexington (21-3) will play Clear Fork for a district title at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The Colts beat Shelby 12-2 in five innings in Tuesday’s nightcap.
Ontario (17-9) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Ellie Dawson drew a two-out walk and came around to score on Morgan Pearson’s double to left.
It remained that way until the home half of the sixth.
Camryn McGuire reached on a one-out error and moved to second on an Addy Williams single. McGuire was lifted for pinch runner Ashton Williams and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Taylor then singled to plate both runs.
Lady Lex pitcher Makaree Chapman retired the side in order in the seventh. Chapman went the distance, allowing two hits while walking three and striking out a dozen.
Chapman led Lexington’s six-hit attack with a pair of singles. Alexis Cantrell and Mariana Molton added base hits.
Pearson had both of Ontario’s hits. She doubled with one out in the fourth but was left stranded at second.
Eden Howard was the hard-luck loser. She gave up six hits, all singles while striking out six and walking four. Neither of the runs was earned.
