Christine Hicks, age 90, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025 at Ontario Estates in Ontario, Ohio.

Born April 17, 1935 in Wayland, Kentucky to Burnis and Gladys (Parker) Martin. She had been a Shelby resident the majority of her life and a member of the Connect Church in Shelby.

Christine was the owner and operator of Hicks Record Shop as well as running Hicks & Martin Auto Parts alongside her husband, Homer and her brother, Bernie. In her later years, she owned and managed rental properties around town. She was a member, past President, chairman of the “Ways & Means” and “Woman of the Year” of the Business Professional Women’s Club. Christine was passionate about the group and what it meant for girls in this area. She actively promoted the scholarship program for young women entering college to help give them an advantage for a brighter future. Christine enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, shopping, and playing cards. An excellent cook, you never left her house with an empty stomach. She made sure there was more than enough of her delicious cooking to go around.

Those who will cherish her memories include her son, Jeremy L. (Rebecca Lysinger) Hicks of Shelby; her two daughters and two sons-in-law, Pamela and Richard Gibson of Loudon, Tennessee and Patricia and Harry Mays of Havana, FL; her six grandchildren, Travis (Jennifer) Morris, Austen (Morgan) Hicks, Kaleb (Shannon) Hicks, Riley Hicks, Eva Hicks, and Trevor (Ryann Coile) Phelps; her five great-grandchildren, Trenton Morris, Kolsen, Kylie, Lincoln Hicks and Genevieve Phelps; her brother, Bernie (Wonnie) Martin of Shelby, Ohio; her two sisters-in-law, Doris Hall of Kentucky and Carol Martin of Crestline, Ohio; and her nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer, whom she wed January 20, 1950; her brother Robert Martin; her sister and brother-in-law, Alice (James) Salisbury; her six brothers-in-law, and five sisters-in-law.

Friends and family may come to honor Christine’s life at the Barkdull Funeral Home on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 24, 2025 at the Barkdull Funeral Home. Reverend Jason Martin of Journey Life Center will officiate with interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven.
