LEXINGTON — A polling place at Heartland Church opened on time Tuesday morning and is operating normally, despite a power outage, according to Richland County Board of Elections Director Matt Finfgeld.
The voting location near the intersection of Lexington-Springmill and Hanley roads handles all three Village of Lexington precincts and two Troy Township precincts, according to Finfgeld.
He said poll workers arrived at the site at 5:30 a.m. and found the building had no electrical power.
He said the Richland County maintenance department arrived quickly to set up a generator to power the lights in the building. He also said the voting machines are running on batteries and that additional batteries have been taken to the site.
Finfgeld said Ohio Edison has a team responding to the site, but no time has been established as to when full power will be restored.
“We opened on time at 6:30 a.m. and things are running as normal. It may just be a little darker in there than normal,” he said.
Polls are open for this primary election day until 7:30 p.m.
