Rita Lois Steward, 67, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at her residence in Crestline. Rita was born on September 12, 1957, in West Liberty, KY, to her late father, Raymond Hammond, and her surviving mother, Geneva (Perkins) Hammond, in Mansfield. She married Douglas D. Steward on October 20, 1973, and he survives her.
Rita embraced her hobbies with passion, finding joy in collecting antique glassware and porcelain, crafting beautiful wreaths, reading, and crocheting. Rita’s creativity knew no bounds, as she was always learning new hobbies to master. Rita’s love for animals extended to the many Pekingese dogs raised over her lifetime. Her most cherished time though was spent with her family and Rita treasured time spent with them.
In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by her three sons: Mark (Stephanie) Steward, Michael (Sally) Steward, and Jason Steward, thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and her two brothers, Steven Hammond and Scott (Andrea) Hammond.
Friends may call on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Gompf Funeral Service – Crestline Chapel, 223 W. Main St., from 2:00 until 3:00pm. A service will follow immediately at 3:00pm.
