Runner dives back to first base

BELLVILLE — BELLVILLE — Garret Hotz did it all for Clear Fork on Monday.

Hotz scattered four hits over seven innings and delivered a clutch two-run double in the sixth as the Colts blanked Shelby 6-0 in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference action.

The game was scoreless through five before Clear Fork (9-4, 6-3) erupted for six runs in the sixth.

Jay Jackson led off with a single before Hunter Rahall drew a walk. A sacrifice bunt put two in scoring position for Hotz, who lined a double to left-center on the first pitch of the at bat. Jacob Brokaw laced a run-scoring single to plate Hotz and make it 3-0. Three more runs scored on a pair of Shelby errors.

The support was more than enough for Hotz. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Brokaw had two hits for the Colts. Dawson Staley knocked in a pair.

Quinton Albert led the Whippets (10-7, 3-6) with three hits, including a pair doubles.

The teams will complete the home-and-home series at Shelby on Wednesday.
