MADISON TOWNSHIP — For the past two years, students in the Lexington Cross-Categorical Classroom, led by Suzy McBride, have had the opportunity to connect with their penpals from the Madison Cross-Categorical Classroom, lead by Amy O’Connell and Shelbi Ohl.

Cross categorical classrooms bring together students with disabilities into a single classroom.

This special collaboration has fostered friendships, creativity, and memorable experiences for all involved.

Last year, the pen-pal journey culminated in a visit to Madison Comprehensive High School, where the students were hosted by their Madison pen pals. The group gathered in the school library, participating in a series of fun and engaging activities.

After a day of exploring new ideas and sharing experiences, the students enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Ramble Inn, where they had the chance to bond further and share stories.

This year, the tradition continued with another unforgettable event.

The students came together at Lexington’s Lex Lanes Bowling Alley for a day of bowling, pizza, and fun. Lexington Schools generously provided pizza and pop.

The cross-school collaboration has provided students with a fantastic opportunity to build lasting connections while experiencing the true joy of teamwork and friendship.

The students eagerly anticipate continuing their pen-pal correspondence and annual gatherings for many years to come.
