ONTARIO — The Republican Party Central Committee members for the City of Ontario are accepting applications for the appointed position of city auditor through April 30.
A notice issued April 17 states any applicants can share a resume and a letter of interest to janezim@icloud.com by April 30, 2025.
Qualified applicants must live in the City of Ontario and be a registered Republican, as they will be appointed to a current Republican’s term.
Former auditor Mary Ann Hellinger retired in March 2025. Deputy auditor Brian Musille is overseeing her duties in the interim before an appointment is made.
“This position is kind of a watchdog over city departments — we handle the outgoing money, make sure things are handled appropriately and do financial reporting with different agencies,” Musille said.
“A background in city or government finances would help. I came from the private sector and there was an adjustment period for sure.”
The position is full-time and responsible for:
- Keeping detailed records of all city expenses, appropriations and available cash
- Maintaining accurate accounts with all city departments and officers
- Examining and auditing all accounts and claims against the city
- Certifying that accounts or claims are properly authorized and that funds are available before issuing payments
- Authorizing payments from city funds
- Preparing and submitting an annual financial report showing city revenues and expenditures to the mayor and city council, available to the public
- Assisting the mayor in preparing the city’s annual budget
No one filed to be elected to the position in the 2025 primary election, according to the Richland County Board of Elections.
