MANSFIELD — A Mansfield man was sentenced in March to 64 years to life in prison after being convicted of rape and gross sexual imposition.
Bret Smith, 57, was sentenced March 21 in Richland County Common Pleas Court by Judge Phil Naumoff, according to court records.
Jurors found Smith guilty on three counts of first-degree felony rape and two counts of fourth-degree felony gross sexual imposition.
Smith’s charges stem from sexual abuse which occurred between 2021 and 2023.
In September 2024, Richland County Prosecutor Jodie Schumacher said the victims of the abuse were both juveniles and that Smith’s three rape charges involved “digital penetration.”
Smith will also be registered as a Tier III sex offender and received up to five years of post-release control for a felony sex offense. He was granted 22 days of jail credit for time already served at the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
