MANSFIELD — Mansfield Correctional Institution (MANCI) has recognized Officer Kyle Voorhies as its 2025 Officer of the Year.

Voorhies displayed exceptional dedication, leadership, and service over his career as a correctional officer.

Officer Voorhies has been an integral part of MANCI’s Special Response Team (SRT) for the past eight years and now serves as the assistant SRT Commander.

In this role, he has played a key part in uncovering significant contraband during SRT clear-outs, both at MANCI and across the state — contributing to enhanced safety and security within the facilities.

In addition to his work on the SRT, Officer Voorhies has served as a regular officer in the prison’s restricted housing unit. This unit handles disciplinary incarcerated individuals who require more structure and supervision.

He has implemented vital operational changes in the unit, improving safety for both staff and inmates. He is now doing the same as the regular yard officer.

Since 2022, Voorhies has been a trusted on-the-job training coach, guiding new hires through the essential responsibilities of working in a high-security correctional environment.

His leadership extends to the entire institution as an in-service instructor. His desire to learn and understand case law and policy ensures staff receive accurate information. This commitment recently resulted in him becoming a temporary training officer, where he excelled tremendously.

Officer Voorhies continues to pursue professional development opportunities through the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC), becoming a certified instructor for various in-service training modules, including Defensive Tactics and Subject Control (DTSC) and Behavioral Intervention/Use of Force Investigation

Beyond his operational contributions, Voorhies fosters a culture of growth and innovation at MANCI.

He uses his strong communication skills to help fellow officers adapt to the ever-evolving corrections environment, consistently encouraging teamwork and professional development.

His daily dedication and positive influence make him a true role model within the institution.

Voorhies balances his demanding career with his role as a dedicated father to his 11-year-old son, a testament to his resilience and unwavering commitment both at work and at home.

Mansfield Correctional Institution is proud to celebrate Officer Voorhies’ outstanding achievements and leadership, recognizing him as a vital part of the facility’s continued success.

His passion for corrections and commitment to fostering a safer, more effective institution embody the highest standards of the profession.

Congratulations to Officer Kyle Voorhies — MANCI’s 2025 Officer of the Year!
