About the event:

Elva Hurst tells her Faith Story using Chalk Talk

I would like to invite you to come and hear Elva Hurst as she shares her faith story using Chalk Talk.  Elva is a professional artist from Lancaster County, PA.  She grew up in a large Old Order Mennonite family.  She spent most of her time teaching herself art between chores on the family dairy farm.  After graduating 8th grade from her one room school, she discovered the lost performance art of Chalk Talk.  She now owns and operates the Barnyard Art Studio and Gallery on her 40 acre farm in Lancaster, PA.  She does some traveling to share her stories of faith and freedom through Chalk Talk.  Watch as Elva takes you and the audience through an inspiring show, sharing her stories through fluorescent chalk, music, and sound effects.  Enjoy the grand finale as colored light and an ultraviolet black light create beautiful effects on her art work, ending the show with a memorable experience, you have to see it to believe it!  She will be at the Ontario United Methodist Church, 3540 Park Ave West on Saturday May 3, from 8:30- 11:00 AM

Kyle Ray shares how the architecture of a church tell some of the church’s faith story

Klye Ray is from Mansfield, Ohio and is passionate about capturing the beauty and craftsmanship of every church he photographs.  He started over a year ago and has photographed nearly 150 churches.  His passion for architecture and history stems from his former job at the Historical Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, OH.  What started as a small hobby has turned into a large Project.  Kyle will be sharing his photographs “Churches of Ohio,” at the Ontario United Methodist Church, 3540 Park Ave. West on Saturday, May 3, from 1:00 – 2:15 PM.

Both of these presentations are a part of the Ohio Methodist Historical Society’s Annual Meeting.  They are helping show local church historians how to share their church’s faith story using many different senses.  We wanted to share them with the community because they are so incredible.  I hope you will come and join us.
