Gerald Sipes, a devoted milk hauler and beloved community member, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love.
He was born on February 6, 1943 to the late Clyde and Catherine (Bonjai) Sipes in Mansfield, Ohio. Gerald grew up in the Troy Township/Morrow County area and chose to spend his entire adult life in the same community that meant so much to him.
On June 3, 1962, Gerald married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Emma Looney. The couple had two sons, Steven and Michael, and shared 63 wonderful years together.
From the moment he graduated high school at 18, he revolutionized the local dairy industry by introducing one of the first bulk milk hauling trucks to the area. His passion for his craft, instilled in him by his father, led him to establish Gerald Sipes & Sons, a business built on integrity, commitment, and a deep respect for the farmers he served. He took great pride in his work and in the relationships he built along the way, always putting his farmers first. Even his vacations revolved around his work- he found joy in traveling to milk hauler and trucking conventions. Above all, Gerald was a family man, deeply devoted to those he loved. He worked tirelessly to provide for them, ensuring his values of hard work and perseverance were passed down to his sons. His presence, wisdom, and unwavering dedication will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will live on in the roads he traveled, the farmers he helped, and the family he cherished.
He is survived by his loving wife Emma Sipes, sons Steven (Annetta) Sipes and Michael Sipes, grandchildren Kelly (Sean) Bruce, Sunshine, Brian (Tat), Cruz, Cannon, Tommy, David, Rachel (Marcus), Nicole, and Megan, nine great-grandchildren, Aunt Iris Wertz, sisters-in-law Ona Baker and Selva (Bill) Crawford, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law Quinton and Goldie Looney, brother-in-law Homer Looney, and sister-in-law Cora Sargent.
The Sipes family will receive guests on Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 5-8pm in the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Chapel. A funeral service for Gerald will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 11 am. Burial to follow in Shauck Cemetery.
