Betty Jane Neff, 96, of Galion, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025. Betty was born to the late John and Annabelle (Ellis) Durtschi on December 25, 1928, in Galion.
Betty was a proud graduate of Galion High School, Class of 1946. She was united in marriage to William Neff on September 18, 1949. For 45 years, she dedicated herself to the family business, Neff Brothers Market, working alongside her late husband, William, and their son, Tim, fostering a sense of community and connection that resonated with every patron who walked through their doors. After William’s untimely passing, on August 2, 1983, Betty remained a pillar of strength for her family.
A lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church, Betty exemplified faith and service, touching countless lives throughout her community. She was actively involved in Galion Hospital Twig #4, volunteered with Ohio Reads at North Elementary School, and recently received her 75-year pin for her dedication to the Order of the Eastern Star.
As the matriarch of her family, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose nurturing presence will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered.
Left to cherish Betty’s memories are her children; Becky (John) Hoge, of Monclova, Tim (Jeanne) Neff, of Galion, and Jenny (Lloy Skillicorn) Neff, of Galion, grandchildren; Sara (Jim) Jones, Michael (Arica) Hoge, and Kelly (Taylor) Sabo, great-grandchildren; Paxton, Sawyer, Liam, Asher, Delaney, and Grayson.
Along with Betty’s parents and husband, Betty is preceded in death by her sister Carol Kelso.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Magnolia Terrace and Gentiva Hospice, for their exceptional care, love, and support.
A private graveside service will take place at Fairview Cemetery.
