Josephine Esther Riling, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. She was 75.
She was born on May 22, 1949 to parents Willis G. and Miriam E. (Kurtz) Ludwig in Mansfield, Ohio. Josie grew up in the Mansfield area and worked various jobs, making her a beloved member of several communities.
On August 4, 2004, at a singles dance, Josie met the love of her life, Ken Riling, and the couple married on June 9, 2012 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. In the 20 years they were together, 13 years of which they were married, they shared countless adventures, lots of laughter, and endless love for each other.
Josie was a woman of faith whose kind heart and gentle spirit touched all who knew her. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—losing herself in the pages of a good book, carefully piecing together jigsaw puzzles, and spending cherished time with loved ones over board games. Her sharp mind and playful nature made every game night one to remember, but for Josie, it was never about winning—it was about connection, laughter, and the love shared around the table. Guided by her unwavering faith, she approached life with patience, kindness, and a deep appreciation for the beauty in every moment. Her legacy of love, faith, and joy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her best.
She is survived by her loving husband Ken Riling, children Terry (Marcella) Butler, John (Barbara) Butler, and Leane Knight, brother Paul (Peggy) Ludwig, ten grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Josie is preceded in death by her sister Ruth Worner.
The Riling family will receive guests from 10 am to 12 pm on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at the Grace Church of Lexington, 215 W. Main St., where a funeral service celebrating Josie will begin immediately after. Burial to follow in Shauck Cemetery.
