Evelyn Coates, age 86, of Lexington, Ohio passed away on January 12, 2025 at home following a long battle with COPD and a weakening Heart. On January 21, 1938 she was born in Wilmington, Ohio the daughter of the late Clarence Nance and Glenna Barber. On December 9, 1961 she married Juan G. Davila they shared 11 years of marriage.
Evelyn is the last of 4 children who preceded her in death by her parents, her brothers, Richard, and Ronnie Nance and her sister Fayetta Nance/Todd she has survived by her two children, Glendol and Juan the Davila Jr.; her grandchildren, Iieia Davila, and Juan Davila III, a niece Tressa Todd/McKee and nephew, Dennie Todd. Her life was filled with the love of 24 foster children that shared her home and heart throughout the years. She was blessed with numerous friends and associates.
Evelyn retired from the Cleveland Board where she worked in the field of education most of her life from Payne Theological to retirement from the Cleveland Board of Education.
Ohio has always been her home. A passion for adventure and travel was simply one of many things she loved.
An avid reader, “don’t touch her word search book!”. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. All the old skills we use machines for these days. She enriched the lives she touched, helping when needed.
In March 23, 2009 she used her vehicle to shield two children from an illegal immigrant, driving drunk. Her cost was great yet all she remembered was two children, waving and smiling at her from the window of the car in front of her.
Evelyn always had time to listen, offer a hug when needed. Her inviting smile was contagious.
She was loved and cherished by many thank you for the time we had and the memories

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 21, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Ohio Cremation & Memorial Society, 9 Chambers Rd., Mansfield, Ohio 44906. Family and friends may call from 2:00PM-3:00PM. Pastor Mike Wilson will officiate.
