MANSFIELD — Grammy-winning jazz artist Norman Brown will bring contemporary jazz and elegance to Mansfield on Saturday, April 19.

The guitarist and singer has collaborated with Stevie Wonder, Gerald Albright, George Benson, Chanté Moore and others.
JazzTimes Magazine described his style as “A culmination of Jimi Hendrix and George Benson with some of Wes Montgomery thrown in.”

The band called Blessid Union of Souls’ lead singer Eliot Sloan is coming to Mansfield, along with Grammy award winner Norman Brown to perform at the Mid Ohio Conference Center on April 19.

“I Believe” and this year marks its 30th anniversary of that song’s release.
Both Norman and Eliot are collaborating to rewrite the 30-year-old hit and perform the new version together for the first time live in Mansfield.
Opening acts are The Conne Band and “G and Friends.” There will be raffle drawings, cash giveaways, cash bar and concessions.

The event at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center is presented by David Kirst’s film company Rominus James Productions.
Kirst said he met Brown by attending one of his concerts and reaching out to him via email.
“We became friends and hope to collaborate more in the future,” Kirst said. “We have the same type of energy and drive.
“We’re both musicians and love the craft.”
The lead singer from the band “Blessid Union of Souls” Eliot Sloan is also joining Brown at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Blessid Union of Souls’ song “I Believe,” which Kirst said Sloan and Brown will rewrite and perform together for the first time live in Mansfield.
Local opening bands will include CONNE and “G” and Friends, led by Garland McCruter. Music is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
Event sponsors include ABC Warehouse, Swavory and Metronome Music. ABC Warehouse will raffle off a 50-inch smart TV and Swavory will have munchy baskets available.
Brown will sign a guitar from Metronome Music to raffle off to one attendee.
“Norman will take the brand new guitar on stage, play a few songs and sign it for one lucky winner,” Kirst said.
A portion of the night’s proceeds will support the Richland County Domestic Violence Shelter.
The concert is for ages 21+ with a cash bar for drinks and snacks. The event will also feature concessions and door prizes.
Rominus James Productions is offering a $100 cash prize for the best-dressed man and best-dressed woman in attendance.
“This will be a classy event, so we wanted to offer an incentive to dress to impress,” Kirst said.
Only 450 tickets are available. General admission tickets are $50 and VIP tickets are $100, which includes one beverage of choice and hors d’oeuvres, a swag bag and premium seating.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. April 19 with raffles and festivities to begin around 6 p.m.
