Almedie K. McKown, age 97, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Lutheran Village assisted living facility in Ashland.
Almedie was born August 19, 1927, in Shelby, OH to the late Elton and Violet (Fisher) Karr, she had been a Shelby resident for the majority of her life. A 1945 graduate of Shelby High School, she worked as a bank teller for Citizens Bank for many years before switching careers and working for Shelby Mutual, retiring at the age of 65.
She was a long-time member of the First Lutheran Church in Shelby, the Business & Professional Woman’s Club, as well as the Insurance Woman’s Club. For hobbies, she enjoyed camping and collecting Roseville Pottery.
Almedie is survived by her two sons, Mark S. (Peggy) McKown of Shelby and Michael S. (Stephanie) McKown of Mansfield, OH; two grandchildren; Stephanie McKown and Nathan (Jessica) Craley; five great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Chase, Dailynn and Tristen Dawson and Dana and Justin Craley; sister, Susie Clark of Shelby; and sister-in-law Jackie Karr of Swanton, OH; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond McKown, in 2006; sister, Elizabeth (Robert) Jones; brothers, Donnie (Mary Anna) Karr and Richard Karr; and brother-in-law, Ray Clark.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby on Wednesday, March 5, at 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Funeral services will be held the following day on Thursday, March 6, at 11:00 AM. Pastor Russel Yoak will officiate with interment held in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
