MADISON TOWNSHIP — If her performance at the Clyde sectional is any indication, Estella Koppert is primed for a run at the state podium.

Madison’s 140-pound junior overwhelmed the competition at the Clyde sectional. She was 3-0 with a pin and two technical falls, including a 16-0 win over Woodmore’s Stella Strong in the finals.

Koppert will take a 34-2 record into this week’s Findlay district tournament, where she will be hunting for her second straight state-tournament berth. She qualified at 130 pounds last year.

Like Koppert, Crestview’s Naomi Gearheart is in search of a second straight state bid. She placed fifth at the 155-pound class last year.

Gearheart dropped to 145 this year and pinned her way to a Clyde sectional title. She improved to 26-4.

North central Ohio produced six other district qualifiers. Lexington’s Kyler Lamb (110) and Shelby’s Hope Timko (120) finished third, while Madison’s Abigail McGlasson (120) and Anna Blanton (190), Mansfield Senior’s Skyla Wilson (130) and Lexington’s Leah Vanmeter (135) were fourth.
