NORTH LIBERTY: James E. Barrett, age 89, of North Liberty and formerly of Bremen, Ohio passed away Monday evening, February 17, 2025 following a two month decline in health.

He was born September 14, 1935 in Columbus, to the late Theodore Arthur and Gladys Mae (McClure) Barrett.

A U.S. Army veteran, Jim served three years during Korea and was honorably discharged in 1957. Following his time in the service, he married Sandra Hardman on October 12, 1957, raising their three children and celebrating 67 years together.

The grandson of a dairy farmer, Jim dedicated his life to farming. He began helping his grandfather and continued in his footsteps keeping up to 500 dairy cattle on his farm in Bremen.

In 2008, he and Sandra relocated to North Liberty, maintaining their Knox County farm. He attended North Liberty Community Church.

Though farming didn’t leave much downtime, Jim enjoyed watching football, and relaxing at home. He will be remembered by his loved ones with a cheek full of Red tobacco and a cantankerous grin on his face.

He is survived by his loving wife Sandra, children John (Deborah) Barrett, Bill (Regina) Barrett all of North Liberty, and Peggy (Neil) Boch of Bremen; grandchildren Jaime Zeger, David (Tara) Barrett, Nicole (Garry) Siders, Michelle Boch, and Natalie Kennedy; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister Mary Barrett, and a sister-in-law Janice Barrett along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother Charles Barrett.

Friends may call Wednesday, February 26, 2025 from 1-2 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will follow in North Liberty Cemetery. Pastor Nicholas Kelley will officiate.

Donations in honor of James may be made to North Liberty Community Church.
