SHELBY — The legend of Brayden DeVito continues to grow.

An All-Ohio quarterback and college football prospect, DeVito was selected the Division IV Player of the Year when the District 6 boys basketball teams were unveiled Monday.

Shelby’s junior guard led the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference in scoring at 18.9 points a game. The Whippets (13-9, 10-4) finished third in the chase for the MOAC championship.

Clear Fork’s Garrett Hotz joined DeVito on the Division IV first team. The 6-foot-4 senior forward averaged 18.8 points and 8.1 rebounds a game for the Colts (9-13, 5-9). 

Ontario freshman Cardae Brown was a District 6 second-team pick in Division IV. Shelby’s Karsen Homan and Landon Foltz, Ontario’s Trindon Fenoury and Clear Fork’s Carter Coole were honorable-mention selections.

Division III

Lexington’s Scott Hamilton was selected the District 6 Coach of the Year in Division III after leading the Minutemen to their third straight Ohio Cardinal Conference championship.

Lex (18-3, 11-1) won its second straight outright OCC title and is 27-1 in OCC play the past two seasons.

Mansfield Senior’s Kyevi Roane was selected to the Division III first team and is the alternate for the state all-star game. The do-it-all senior averaged a team-high 15.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists a game and became just the ninth player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau earlier this season.

Lexington’s Seven Allen and Ashland’s Paxon Ediger joined Roane on the first team. Allen averaged 13 points a game, while Ediger was good for 19 points a night. 

Lexington’s Joe Caudill, Mansfield Senior’s Kaylen Brooks and Ashland’s Gabe Baith were second-team picks. Caudill averaged 13 points a game, while Brooks and Baith each averaged 14 points a night.

Lexington’s Brayden Fogle and Gavin Husty were honorable-mention picks.

Divison V

Galion’s Dom Capretta was the lone area player to be recognized on the Division V team. The sophomore was a second-team selection after averaging 10 points a game.

Division VI

Crestview’s Justice Thompson was a first-team pick on the Division VI team and tabbed as an alternate for the state all-star game. Thompson averaged 25 points a game.

Mansfield Christian’s Davion Mack joined Thompson on the Division VI first team. The sophomore averaged 19 points a game.

Crestview’s Tyson Ringler was a second-team pick after averaging 12 points a game. Teammate Karter Goon was an honorable-mention selection, along with Mansfield Christian’s Evan Hager.

Division VII

Plymouth’s Jarrett Burrer earned a spot on the Division VII fist-team. The junior averaged 17.1 points a game.

Lucas Zac Winters, Crestline’s Kody Lawhorn and St. Peter’s Dmoni Lentes were second-team picks. Winters averaged 15.7 points a game, while Lawhorn was good for 14.4 points a night and Lentes averaged 13.3 points a game.

Crestline’s Keirn Barnett and Brett Cheney were honorable-mention picks.
