MANSFIELD – The Mansfield Symphony Orchestra (MSO) continues its season on Saturday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Theatre with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, alongside the Mansfield Symphony Chorus (MSC), presenting Requiem by John Rutter.
As part of the OhioHealth Symphony Series, experience the emotive power of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 with the MSO under the artistic direction of Music Director and Conductor Octavio Más-Arocas.
Also known as the “Pathétique,” this iconic symphony is one of the greatest in music history.
Over 55 masterful musicians from Mansfield and beyond will bring this piece to life, weaving together conventional symphonic structures with the deep, somber themes that permeate the work.
What seems like a triumphant finale is ultimately surpassed by a final movement often interpreted as Tchaikovsky’s own requiem.
Audiences can expect a journey through Tchaikovsky’s rich orchestration, from the melancholic beauty of the first movement to the energetic dance rhythms of the second and third.
The symphony culminates in a profoundly moving final movement, known for its emotional intensity and haunting melodies.
Adding to the evening’s depth, the Mansfield Symphony Chorus, under the choral direction of Jacob Poiner, will present John Rutter’s Requiem — a work that is intimate rather than grand, contemplative rather than dramatic, and consolatory rather than grim.
Written as a response to the passing of Rutter’s father, this piece offers a sense of comfort and peace, with texts chosen for their deeply personal and universal resonance.
