John William Carmer, age 70 of Galion, Ohio passed away on February 10, 2025. On December 2, 1954 he was born in Galion Ohio the son of the late William and Phyllis Carmer. John graduated from Galion High School in 1973 and joined the United States Army. He studied at the University of Maryland and Columbus Institute and became a registered nurse. He worked at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington DC, the ER at Riverside Methodist Hospital and ICU at Doctor’s Hospital. He went on to spend many years caring for patients at the Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital and Carolinas Healthcare System.

John spent most of his life living in Ohio, between Galion, Columbus and Delaware. He also spent time in Maryland during college and almost 10 years in Charlotte, North Carolina before returning to Galion to care for his parents. John enjoyed working on projects around the house, most recently updating his family home. He also loved watching football, especially when the Buckeyes were playing. John cared deeply for his family and loved ones. He loved helping others and always knew how to make you smile.

John is survived by his daughter Rileigh and her husband, Stephen Hageman; his sisters Elizabeth Bodkins, Julie (Mike) Roelle; nephews, Abraham Bodkins, Jarrod Roelle, Joseph Roelle and Jacob (Brittney) Roelle; and several great nieces and nephews.

Thank you to Melanie, his dear friend and neighbor. Thank you to all the kind doctors and nurses at the Galion Hospital, Pastor Joe who came to pray with us and to all our family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
