MANSFIELD — Olivia Cains was selected “Student of the Month” at the Music Academy of Karate and Empowerment’s monthly promotion ceremony.
“She exemplifies perseverance, integrity, an indomitable spirit, and self-control, demonstrating these qualities quietly and passionately. Olivia works diligently to correct her katas in pursuit of perfection,” said Reneta Music, executive director of the non-profit center.
Music said 24 of 40 students attended the event.
During the event, each student had the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge of the kata they were studying. After each student’s kata performance, they also had a chance to spar.
Many students earned their second stripe, which is awarded for promotion, while others received their first or third stripe, which is given for attendance.
The only belt promotion of the day was awarded to Colin Hall, who received his red belt.
