Roberta “Diane” McElhatten, 72, of Crestline, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025. Diane was born on March 1, 1952, in Pomeroy, Ohio, to the late Warren and Juanita (Whitlatch) Wright who survives in Columbus.
Diane was a graduate of West High School of Columbus, Class of 1970. She met and later married Tom McElhatten on October 7, 1978, and they spent 46 fabulous years together.
Diane was known for her playful heart—whether she was solving puzzles, engaging in spirited games of cards, or indulging in classic western films featuring her favorite, John Wayne. She cherished her family fiercely, and she had a remarkable talent for staying connected through her thoughtfully crafted cards and letters sent to friends and relatives.
Her deep-rooted faith served as a guiding light in her life, and her love for golden oldies provided a soundtrack to her days, often filling her home with warmth and nostalgia. Diane’s legacy will be celebrated through the stories and memories she leaves behind, woven together by the love she shared with her family.
Left to cherish her memories are Diane’s loving husband, Tom McElhatten; daughters, Patty(Scott) Higgins of Galion, and Jenny (Alex) Reed of Galion; her siblings; LaVona VanOrder of Columbus, Jean Weiner of Columbus, and Anita Wright of Columbus, Bob (Lisa) Wright of Grove City and Chip (Denise) Wright of Grove City; six grandchildren and 1 great-grandchildren.
Along with Diane’s father, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Sheldon May and grandson, Jordan McElhatten.
Friends may call on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Mark A. Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N., Galion. The service will immediately follow at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at Iberia Cemetery.
