Georgenia (Jean) Rowland, 83, died peacefully on December 31, 2024 in Ontario, Ohio, following many years of bravely battling cancer.
Jean was born on October 16, 1941 in Vinton County, Ohio to George and Josephine (Harris) Jarvis.
Jean married her husband George (Tom) Rowland on April 12, 1975 in New Winchester, Virginia. They enjoyed fifty loving years of marriage together.
Jean spent 20 years of her professional career at Galion Amco where she was a machine operator and then working at Kohl’s for 12 years before enjoying many years of retirement. During retirement, Jean enjoyed traveling with Tom and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she cherished. She thoroughly enjoyed watching them succeed in their careers and sports activities.
A true Ohioan, Jean always loved to bowl and watch The Ohio State Buckeyes. You could find her every weekend during the fall in front of the television, rooting for the team. Jean and Tom most recently shared a few wonderful trips to Berlin, Ohio where they enjoyed shopping, eating many delicious meals and taking in the beautiful countryside.
Jean is survived by her loving family, husband, Tom Rowland, son Jeff (Cheryl) Ballard of Lexington, daughter Tammy (Tony) Van Houten of Bucyrus, sisters Rita (Mel) Cooper of Tennessee, Judith Ramey and Jodi Ballard of Ontario, brother Gayle (Libby) Jarvis of Ashland.
Grandchildren Nicholas (Megan Kanable) Ault of Charlotte, North Carolina, Tia (Nic) Wise of Cardington, Christopher Stoney of Galion, Alyssa Stoney of Columbus, and Miranda Meeker of Bucyrus.
Jean is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Blake and Zane Wise, Waylon Van Houton and Brantley Agin.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Jan Angela Ault.
Jean’s family wishes to thank all of the wonderful doctors, nurses and healthcare teams that provided such wonderful care throughout the many years. We are so gratefully indebted for all that you do.
