Elmer L. Morehead, age 88, of Lexington passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Elmer was born on August 12, 1936 in Mansfield to Howard L. and Iva Irene (Au) Morehead. He was one of five siblings. In 1956, he graduated from Lexington High School. Shortly after, on April 27, 1958, he married the love of his life, “Millie” Noblet with whom he raised two children, Kerri and Kevin.
Elmer worked for years as the groundskeeper for Lexington’s schools, creating a safe and pristine environment for students. His job at Lexington was his pride and joy. He was ever the hard-worker; even in time away from the schools, he diligently kept his own yard and home immaculate. Despite his industrious nature, Elmer enjoyed small pleasures, including candies and his evening coffee with his “buddies”. He loved retreating to campsites when time allowed, and found peace in meticulously putting jigsaw puzzles together. He tended to a prolific garden, raising tomatoes, sweet corn, and onions. Deeply dedicated to his family, Elmer enjoyed playing sports with his grandsons. Always kindhearted and energetic, Elmer’s service and generosity lives on with everyone who loved him.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife Mille Morehead, daughter Kerri (Tom) Flynn, son Kevin (Eddie) Morehead; two grandsons Chris (Anna) Odson, and Jacob (Grace) Odson, a sister Evelyn (Darrel) Wilcox and many nieces nephews and extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Gerald (June) Morehead, Barbara (Robert) Mangan and Arthur Morehead.
