LEXINGTON: Mary I. Sherman passed into her Savior’s arms on Sunday, December 22, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was 81.

She was born on January 25, 1943 in Mansfield, Ohio to parents Charles and Rosemary (Kagey) Kuhn. After graduating from Union High School, with high marks in her English and typing classes, Mary accepted her very first job with Richland Shale. She then went on to work at General Electric for many years and served as the Clerk of Courts and Executive Secretary to the Mayor of Lexington for 21 years.

On December 21, 1962 she married the love of her life, James R. Sherman, and the couple shared 57 wonderful years together until his passing in 2020. They are now rejoicing together in Heaven once more.

Mary was a kind and caring woman who loved Jesus with all of her heart. As a long time member of the Lexington Church of Christ, she served her church community tirelessly and was always the first person to check on you when you were in need. In her spare time she enjoyed reading a good book on vacation or a cookbook to find a new recipe to try out, and travelling around the country in the motorhome visiting their grandchildren. Mary valued her relationships with everyone in her life, but her love of Christ was always the most important to her and allowed her to share His light with others.

She is survived by her daughter Laurie (Jeff) Shamp of Lexington, Ohio, son Robert (Gail) Sherman of Maumee, Ohio, grandchildren Jason Shamp of Brooklyn, New York, Joe (Heather) Shamp of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Michael (Leslie) Goltry of Brownstown, Indiana, Kayla Shamp of Wisconsin, Tyler Goltry of Roseville, Michigan, Levi (Corinne) Zee-Shamp of Columbus, Ohio, and Alexis and Abby Sherman of Maumee, Ohio, four beloved great-grandchildren, and sister Carol (Ray) Cordrey of South Dakota.

In addition to her husband, Mary is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Linda Gongwer and Connie Moton, and brother William Kuhn.

The Sherman family will receive guests from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Avenue Chapel. A funeral service honoring Mary’s life will begin immediately after. Interment in Lexington Cemetery to follow privately.

Snyder Funeral Homes is honored to serve Mary’s family and encourage you to share a fond memory or message of condolence on her obituary page at www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.
