BUTLER: Naomi Maxine O’Hearn passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024. She was 92.
She was born on September 15, 1932 to parents Sylvan and Mattye (Crosthwaite) McKinney in Morehead, Kentucky. She spent the majority of her life in and around the Mansfield area, and after graduating from Mansfield Senior High School in 1951 she went on to earn her business degree from Ashland University.
On April 13, 1974 she married the love of her life, Dwight W. O’Hearn, and the couple shared 38 wonderful years together until his passing in 2012. Now they are reunited again in Heaven.
Naomi worked as the Executive Secretary to the District Manager of Ohio Edison- First energy for 22 years until her retirement in 1978. She was also very involved in her church, First Church of God on Park Avenue West, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, recording secretary of the church, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Toast Mistress’s.
Having been to every continent except for Antarctica, Naomi was an experienced world traveler throughout her life. Through her travels she saw beautiful landscapes and experienced several different cultures, which she appreciated deeply. She also developed a love for gourmet cooking and all of the delicious cuisines she tasted along the way.
Naomi is survived by her children Deborah Sparks of Lexington, Ohio and Mark Adkins of Perrysville, Ohio, step-daughter Kathleen (Roger) Company of Plymouth, Ohio, grandchildren Dustin Sparks of Lexington, Ohio and Nicole (Dr. David) Greenfield of Savannah, Georgia, great-grandchildren Kellen, Andrew, and Lincoln Greenfield, as well as beloved nieces Laurie Stevens and Gale Sheridan along with her numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Dwight, she is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Allen McKinney, Henry McKinney, Edison McKinney, Gwendolyn Romig, Ruth Stevens, Clara Elizabeth Prosser, and Irene Pennington, as well as her son-in-law Timothy Sparks.
The O’Hearn family will receive guests on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 11 am to noon at the Snyder Funeral Homes Bellville Chapel, where a funeral service honoring Naomi will begin immediately after. Celebrant Jerry Wilson will speak. Burial to follow in Bunkerhill Cemetery.
