MANSFIELD — How about a round of golf in Middle Park?

A round of Frisbee golf, that is.

Mansfield City Council is expected to vote Tuesday night on a $30,000, two-year “sponsorship support partnership” between the city Parks & Recreation Department and internet service provider Brightspeed — a third of which will go toward construction of a 19-hole Frisbee golf facility in the park.

The funding would be paid over a two-year period “to be used to improve and replace playground equipment and shelter houses with matching funds at select City of Mansfield parks.”

According to the agreement, the city will earmark $10,000 of Brightspeed’s sponsorship towards a fund-raising dollar match for its 19-hole tournament Frisbee Golf Course project in association with the Ohio Realtors Association.

“The project will fund the golf baskets, tee signage, benches, course maps, trash cans and free Frisbees provided to players through the (Mansfield-Richland County Public Library,” according to the agreement.

Brightspeed will have an opportunity to brand one of the 19 new holes “in a way that makes sense for both parties” — and also have the opportunity to place brand recognition on Frisbees provided to players for free.

As part of the agreement, Brightspeed will provide Wi-Fi coverage, monthly services fees and installation in select park areas in exchange for company signage at park locations.

The city will also print 15,000 foldable B&O Trail maps to be distributed throughout the area with Brightspeed logos.

Brightspeed will also participate in “tabling opportunity events” in 2025, including the Drive-Thru Easter in April, Bike-a-Palooza with Mansfield police in North Lake Park in May, bike & hike trail dedication in May at North Lake Park, Summer Sun Fest in Liberty Park in June and the Drive-Thru Trick or Treat in Liberty Park in October.

Also on the agenda are Mayor Jodie Perry’s requests to spend all remaining American Rescue Plan Act funds, including a portion of the federal money toward the purchase of a new $862,079 mobile command post for the Mansfield Police Department from Farber Specialty Vehicles in Columbus.

There are five committee meetings planned Tuesday, as local lawmakers gather in their final scheduled session of 2025 — safety at 6 p.m., streets at 6:15, finance at 6:25, employee relations at 6:35 and public utilities at 6:45.

Council caucus is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. with the legislative session following immediately thereafter.

Lawmakers continue to meet in Mansfield Municipal Courtroom No. 1 while council chambers are being remodeled.
