Samuel Paul Sgambellone, 88, of Mansfield passed away November 29, 2024 at his home.

Sam was born August 29, 1936 in Aliquippa, PA to Domenico and Angelina Fillutzi Sgambellone. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Sam was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a Mansfield Firefighter for 27 years and he and his wife were both hairdressers who owned the Starlite Beauty Salon on Park Avenue West for 25 years. Sam loved spending time with his family and cooking Sunday Italian dinners for them.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carol Ann Sgambellone of Mansfield; children Gina Sgamellone of Mansfield, Milo (Lisa) Sgambellone of Lexington and Dino Sgambellone of Los Alamos, New Mexico; grandchildren Jessica (Dan) Wallace, Hannah Sgambellone of New York, Mia Sgambellone of Cleveland, Noah Sgambellone of Mansfield, Nick (Lexie) Sgambellone of Virginia, Emily Sgambellone of Ashland; great-grandchild Zuri; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary and Norman Gilkison, brothers Anthony, Bruno, Joe and Jim and a sister Rose.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00pm – 6:00pm with a eulogy service at 6:15pm at Herlihy Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30am Wednesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 60 S. Mulberry Street, Mansfield which will be followed with military honors being provided by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Burial will follow at Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s School.
