LEXINGTON — It took a team effort for Lexington to turn back the season’s first big scoring outburst by Clear Fork’s Garrett Hotz.

Hotz erupted for 33 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the Minutemen jumped in front early and maintained their lead throughout for a 65-51 victory in a season-opening boys basketball game at Lexington High School.

The Minutemen opened a 22-9 first-quarter advantage and enjoyed a 34-23 halftime margin. Lex coasted to a 48-32 bulge through three periods and rolled away for the win.

Junior point guard Seven Allen topped Lexington with 24 points and five rebounds. Junior post player Joe Caudill had 15 points and seven rebounds, while Jakob Legron added 10 points and four assists.

Trey Sellers supported Hotz with 10 points, but Clear Fork couldn’t overcome a chilly shooting night (34.5 percent).
