Michael Isaac Hammond, Sr. of North Woodbury passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 18, 2024 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was 55.
He was born on January 7, 1969 to parents Isaac “Ike” and Dolly (Riffe) Hammond in Mansfield, Ohio. Michael spent his childhood in Johnsville, moved to Virginia in his early adulthood, before coming back to Ohio for the remainder of his life.
On November 30, 2011 he married the love of his life Sherry Lynn Owens in Mt. Gilead, Ohio. The couple shared 9 wonderful years of marriage together until her passing in 2020, now they are together again.
Michael was a very talented mechanic, discovering his passion for working on cars at a young age, and worked at Norms Towing in Edison, Ohio for 13 years. Most recently though, he worked as a maintenance man at Major Metals in Bellville, Ohio.
In his spare time he enjoyed building model cars, working on project cars, mowing his grass and taking care of his property, helping friends with odd and end jobs, and caring for friends’ horses. Above all else though, he cherished spending time with his family and his best four-legged friend Tiny.
Michael is survived by his children Michael Hammond Jr., Brian McGraw, Chastity McGraw, mother Dolly Hammond, grandchildren Michaela Wilson, Jamie Wilson, Isaac McGraw, Jackson Looker, John Geyer, great-grandson Carter Merritt, sister Angela Hammond Westmoreland, brother Jeffrey Hammond, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his father Ike Hammond.
The Hammond family will receive friends on Friday, November 22, 2024 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Avenue Chapel, where a funeral will be held immediately following. Burial to follow at Shauck Cemetery.
