Gerald Sisinger, age 92 and Shelby resident, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Willows of Willard.

Born May 28, 1932 in Plymouth, Ohio to John Andrew Sisinger and Hazle Belle Austin Sisinger, he was the youngest of 8 children. A 1950 graduate of Willard High School, he was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church in Shelby.

Gerald was a veteran of the United States Army, during his time in the military, he and his family were stationed in Germany, El Paso Texas and other locations around the world.

After returning to Ohio he drove semi all over the United States delivering mobile homes. Later he became a school bus driver for Richland Newhope Industries. Gerald cared deeply about the kids on his bus route and every holiday he and Iva Jean would fill gift bags with goodies to give out to all of the kids. He had a very strong work ethic and loved to drive, working full time until he was 90 years old. Gerald loved Ford Pick up trucks and Lincoln cars. He enjoyed collecting coins and eagle statues and figurines as well as Wheel Horse Tractors. He was a talented woodworker and would often share some of his pieces with friends and family, making them custom post office boxes with their initials.

Gerald is survived by his two children, Jeanne Sisinger of Mansfield and Michael Sisinger of Rockwood, MI, one granddaughter Ashlie (Scott) Wallenhorst of Macedonia, OH; two great-granddaughters Hallie Elizabeth and Paige Brooke; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Iva Jean Sisinger in 2019, whom he wed June 24, 1951 and seven siblings, Clara Belle, Dalton David, Willard Austin, Donna Mae, Kenneth Carl, Wade Laverne, and Wanda Marie.

Friends may visit the family at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby, Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM the following day, on Thursday at the First Lutheran Church at 33 Broadway St, Shelby, OH 44875. Gerald’s great-great nephew, Pastor James Robinson and Reverend Russel Yoak, will officiate with interment held in Greenwood Cemetery in Willard.

In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Richland Newhope Industries, 314 Cleveland Avenue, Mansfield, Ohio 44902.
