Bernard L. Marx, passed away on his 87th birthday, Sunday, November 17, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born November 17, 1937, in Tiffin, Ohio to Hallie and Loretta (Hammer) Marx, he had been a resident of Shelby for the last 29 years. A 1957 graduate of Columbian High School in Tiffin, Bernard graduated with an Associate’s Degree from the Ohio State University and attended the Ashland Theological Seminary College. He was a proud and dedicated Veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge #350.

Bernard was always a hard worker. He was employed with Copperweld in Shelby for numerous years before his retirement in 2001. He then worked for the Shelby City Schools with the Special Education Department for over 10 years before joining the Shelby Parks Department. He loved the outdoors, fishing and working around the house. An avid reader, Bernard would read anything he could and especially found comfort in reading his Bible. Though he was a busy man, Bernard never was too busy for his “Babies”. Nothing brought more joy to him than being with his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. He looked forward to always making them his famous grilled cheese sandwiches and spending time together.

He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Sandra J (Vogel) Marx, whom he wed on November 10, 1995; children, Lori (Jeff) Meyer, Jeff (Misty) Marx, Kelly Patton Cook, Don (Shana) Patton, Kristine (Scott) Smith, Kimberly Hiler and Kit Wiley; 18 grandchildren, Arianna, Jeffrey, Aaron, Amber, Daniel, Thomas, Terry, Wesley, Caleb, Rhiana, Aiden, Heather, Scottie, Brandon, Brett, Bayley, Tyler, Tristen; and was blessed with many great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Hiler; sister Rita Brown and sister-in-law Darlene Fitzpatrick.
