MANSFIELD — Kris and Candiss Patrick want to show their sons what it looks like to follow their dreams.
That’s why they’re diving into the world of real estate development.
The couple is part of a group developing a 20-unit condominium complex at 1295 Trimble Road, the former home of Tuttle Landscaping.
“We have to lead by example,” Candiss said. “We need to prove that we can implement your dreams. So here we are. We’re not afraid of the work. We know what it’s going to take, and we’re not afraid of that.”
The Patricks have teamed up with fund manager Daniel Asbury of Keystone Capital and developer William Barber to build Hyacinth Court Condominiums.
“The group that we have together on that project is just a bunch of young people very hungry to make Mansfield better,” Candiss added. “We want our kids to grow up in a place that they’re proud to call home.”
The Patricks own the Red Fox Tavern in Mansfield and a few rental units, but they’ve long aspired to build new housing in the area.
Once they met Barber, whose company is developing a neighborhood of duplexes on Mansfield south’s side, they immediately hit it off.
“We’ve always had a passion for real estate,” Candiss said. “It was just meeting the right people and (finding the) opportunity.”
Hyacinth Court will consist of 10 buildings, each with two 1,500 square-foot, multistory units. Each unit will have three bedrooms, two and a half baths and a one car garage.
“We want to provide housing for Richland County that’s not as dated,” Kris said. “I want to bring the modern, sophisticated look to Mansfield. There’s nobody doing that.”
Barber’s company, Blue Door Development Group, is overseeing the construction.
He described the incoming units as high-end, luxury condos with open-concept floorplans, quartz countertops, nine-foot ceilings and master suites with walk-in closets.
The units will be located in the Lexington School District. Buyers will be eligible for certain tax abatements.
Construction has already begun. Barber said he anticipates the first three or four units will be available by next spring.
“We’ll pre-sell, if people want to come in and pick your own colors and vanities and stuff like that,” Kris added.
The development will be named in honor of Kris’ father, who passed away last year.
“We dreamed about it for a long time — building — and we got more serious in last six months, and then he got sick,” Kris said. “He lived in Florida and his street name is Hyacinth Court.”
