James Lowell Arter, age 79, died Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at JAG Memorial Homes in Mansfield.
Born April 18, 1945 in Shelby to Robert Lowell and Nina (Carey) Arter, he was a life long Shelby resident. A 1963 graduate of Ontario High School, he attended the Ohio State University and studied Mechanical Engineering. Jim served as a Mansfield, Shelby, and Newark police officer from the mid 1960s to 1973. He then was employed with Ohio Casualty Insurance, serving in numerous positions for over 20 years. He had also worked as a Litigation Specialist at Ohio Mutual until his retirement in December of 2018.
Jim loved the outdoors, and especially enjoyed fishing, hunting and mowing his lawn.
He is survived by his daughter Kathryn (Matt) Ventrone of Shelby; grandchildren Tanner and Bentley Ernst and Parker Ventrone and sister Cheryl Cramer of Shelby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cynthia Lynn Arter in 2022.
Private family services will be held at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory officiated by Chaplain Chad Berry, followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery in Galion.
