Shirley Jean Robinson was a force to be reckoned with—a spirited, no-nonsense woman with a sharp wit, and a love for life’s simple pleasures. She was a lifelong resident of Mansfield, Ohio, and passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the age of 89.
Born on August 2, 1935, in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Edwin and Nellie (Russell) Evans. Shirley graduated from Mansfield Senior High with the class of 1954.
Shirley spent much of her career with local institutions, including Lumbermans, where she started her working career and ended it as she retired from there as well. In between, she worked for Therm-O-Disc before moving to retail, where she worked at Montgomery Wards and Maxwell’s Dress Shop. Shirley was also a member of Diamond Hills Baptist Church.
Over the years, Shirley found great joy in her beloved dogs, treasuring each one’s companionship. A feisty, spirited woman, Shirley was known for speaking her mind and staying true to her convictions. In younger years she enjoyed camping—whether in a tent or an RV—as well as reading a book or two. An avid NASCAR fan, she loved watching the races and cheered on her favorite drivers, Jeff Gordon and Joey Logano, with enthusiasm (Joey even won the race and the championship the day she passed). She also enjoyed watching football on Sundays with family.
Her presence, strong-willed humor, and caring nature will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
She is survived by sons Tim (Lois) Baker, Dennis (Lauran) Baker and Scott (Cathy) Baker; stepdaughter Julie (Gary) Craft; grandchildren Vince Wagner, Christian Baker, Brooke (Andrew) Myers, Dennis II (Lisa) Baker and Danielle Baker (Richie Burghard); 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters Sandy (Joe) and Beverly as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Charles Robinson; stepdaughter Linda; brother Tom (Avalon); sister Barb; grandson Matt Wagner.
Shirley’s family will receive friends Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 4-7pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home and will continue Friday from 10-11 am where her funeral service will begin promptly at 11 am. Her son Tim Baker will speak.
