Sarah Anne Couch, age 87 of Mansfield, passed away Friday, November 8, 2024 at the Oak Grove Manor in Mansfield.
Sarah was born on January 28 1937 in Mansfield, Ohio to Ray Otho Morton and Margaret Dorothy (Heckman) in their family home. She was a graduate of the Crestline High School class of 55′. After high school, Sarah briefly attended Secretary College in Columbus. Sarah was a devoted mother to her children all her life and worked at Kindernest Daycare always in the baby room. Sarah was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal of Shelby. She was also a member of the mothers club.
A very intelligent and talented person, she taught herself how to play piano as an adult. Sarah loved to sing and one of her favorite past times was singing Christmas carols with her mother at family events during the holidays. When she wasn’t playing music, she could be found outside enjoying her veranda. Sarah had a green thumb and loved growing her garden every year. She learned how to can food at a young age and carried that knowledge with her throughout her life.
Sarah is survived by her brother, Michael (Sharon) Morton of Columbus, Ohio; her children; Dr. Jeffery (Diane) Gwirtz of Lawrence, Kansas; Catherine Ann Phegley of Mansfield, Ohio; Charlies Edwin (Diana Wendling) Gwirtz of Tiro, Ohio; Kelleah Anne (Stephen) Metzger of Shelby, Ohio; Edward Michael (Peggy) Gwirtz of Bucyrus, Ohio; her grandchildren, Amanda Gwirtz, Dr. Kyle (Jemma) Gwirtz, Sarah (Chad) Miley, Joe Phegley, Meghann (Ryan) Beeching, Philip (Keegan) Metzger, Elizabeth (Mark) Condit, Shayne Helms, Ashley (Alex) Gwirtz, Anthony (Rebecca) Gwirtz, Jeffrey (Natalie), Eric (Paige) and Bryan (Kelli) Wendling; her 25 great-grandchildren; and her numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to her parents Ray and Margaret Morton; she was preceded in death by her husband Paul Couch in 1980; sister, Peachie Byers; brother, Norman Morton; infant baby sister, Mary Elizabeth; and dear sweet great-grandchild Everett Thomas Condit.
Friends and family may visit the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm on Friday, November 15th, 2024. A funeral service will immediately follow starting at 2:30 pm at the funeral home. An interment will follow the funeral service at Oakland Cemetery.
