A young boy died on Thursday afternoon after apparently being left inside a parked vehicle.

MANSFIELD — A woman died and a man was injured Friday afternoon following a shooting at an apartment on Wood Street, Mansfield police have said.

The woman, whose identity was not immediately available, died at OhioHealth Hospital in Mansfield. The other person, an unidentified man, remained in critical condition around 9 p.m. on Friday, police said.

Mansfield police responded to a domestic violence call from an apartment at Wood Cliff Manor at 3:34 p.m.

“Upon arrival, neighbors advised officers that they had heard gunshots coming the apartment, prompting officers to immediately enter the residence,” police said.

When they got inside, police found an unidentified man and woman “suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.”

Investigators do not believe there to be additional people involved in the shooting.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office will be ordering an autopsy for the woman “as this is an ongoing investigation,” police said.

“Major Crimes detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting and this tragic event. Additional details will be released once they are available,” reads MPD’s press release.

Police asked anyone with information about what led to the shooting to call MPD Detective Kory Kaufman at 419-755-9748.
