Rebecca Ellen Banks, known to many as Becky, passed away on Friday, November 1st after a brief illness. Born on November 25, 1941 to Don and Mary Spayde in Mansfield, Ohio, Becky lived a life dedicated to serving others, both in her professional career and personal life.

Becky married the love of her life, William Banks, on October 21, 1961 in Mansfield, Ohio. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage and created the legacy of a blessed family. Becky was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and her love and compassion touched the lives of everyone she encountered.

She had a career and calling as an Emergency Department nurse that spanned more than 55 years. After she graduated from the Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing, she started her career at Mansfield General Hospital. Throughout her long career, she cared for and ministered to thousands of people, both in Mansfield and Mount Vernon, Ohio. Becky’s dedication to her patients, and her unwavering faith in God, made her a source of comfort and hope to those in need.

Becky’s faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a devoted Christian who lived out her beliefs in every aspect of her life. She was a member of the First Alliance Church (now known as Mansfield Alliance Church), where she served in various ministries and shared her love for Jesus with those around her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Mary Ruth, and her brother David Spayde. She is survived by her brother Dan (Carol) Spayde and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also had the privilege of loving and being loved by her husband’s family, Janet (Tom) Moser, Jim (Sharron) Banks, Larry (Nancy) Banks, Sheli (Ron) Fairchild as well as their children and grandchildren.

Becky’s legacy will live on through her loving family, including her husband, William, her children Lisa (Brian) Sawman, Tim (Toby) Banks, Lori (Jeff) Ely, Sally (Roger) Dials, and Tammy Fisher, grandchildren Aimee Kovinchick, Alexander (Becky) Banks, Nicholas Kovinchick, Zachary (Alison) Banks, Joshua (Paige) Banks, Kendall (Ariel) Dials, Jacob (Katie) Ely, Megan Ely, Anna Mary Kovinchick, Molly (Jeff) Hale, Isaac (Lillianna) Banks, Ellie Dials, Hannah (Grant) Stout, Sarah Ely, Brandon Fisher, Noah (Halie) Kovinchick, Michael Fisher, Hope Dials, Tim (Camila) Dials, Rachel Ely, William Ely, and Lydia Ely, as well as her twenty granddaughters of the heart from Haiti. Her family continued to grow, and she was blessed to love 21 great-grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit and love will continue to inspire and comfort those she leaves behind.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, November 10th from 5-7 pm at Snyder Funeral Home, 2553 Lexington Ave., Mansfield, Ohio. A celebration of Becky’s life will be held on Monday, November 11th at Mansfield Alliance Church, 291 W. Cook Road, Mansfield, Ohio, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory at 10 am. Services will begin at 11 am at the church. Join us to give thanks for the impact she had on countless lives. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Raising Hope Ministries in Becky’s memory.

Becky’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, but her faith and love will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she touched. We take comfort in knowing that she is now in the loving arms of her Savior, and we will carry her memory with us always. Rest in peace, dear Becky. You will be forever in our hearts.
