James “Jim” Sobek, born on March 14, 1961, in Mansfield, Ohio, has left this world, but his spirit of love, kindness, and warmth will live on. The son of Arnold Salyers and Roberta (Figley) Sobek, Jim touched the lives of many with his gentle heart, devotion to family, and a lifelong love for racing and muscle cars.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his wife, Carol, with whom he shared a beautiful life since their wedding on July 23, 2011. He is survived by his son, Heath Sobek (Shannon Hardy); stepson, Kevin Hawk (Jenny); and his dear grandchildren, Sara, Ebony, Nick, and Adrian. His siblings—Terry Bradford (Jean), Robert Hobbs (Barbara Burns), and Roberta Hobbs—will miss him deeply, as will his extended family, including sister-in-law Cris McClain (Dave), brothers-in-law Bret Hawk (Kim) and Bart Hawk (Dana “Co”), and his father-in-law, Robert “Bob” Hawk.
Jim is reunited with loved ones who passed before him: his parents, his sister Dora Mullins, and his mother-in-law Winnie Davidson.
A dedicated tow motor operator at Jay Industries in Mansfield, Jim was admired for his hard work and gentle spirit. Beyond work, he found joy in his passion for cars, especially muscle cars and racing, which brought him countless friendships and happiness throughout his life.
Jim’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. His family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him will miss his steady presence, his kindness, and the love he shared so freely.
Jim’s family would like to extend a special thank-you to Southern Care Hospice for their support during this time.
Snyder Funeral Homes is honored to oversee Jim’s arrangements and to care for his family.
