ONTARIO — Kelly Purvis wants her customers to feel at home walking into the new home decor and furniture store she co-owns with Allison Hall.
Located at 3417 Park Ave. West, in the former VFW Post 7651, A Touch of Home currently carries Christmas decorations, candles, furniture and more.
Purvis said the shop will carry everyday decor starting in January and plans to host open houses for new seasonal decor. Purvis and Hall worked together and decided to quit their jobs earlier this year to pursue a mutual passion for design.
“We wanted to do something we liked, and we looked at each other and said ‘let’s do something that makes us happy,’ ” Purvis said.
“Then, we took over the former VFW building in July and got it ready to be a home decor store.”
The two women’s husbands and children also helped renovate the shop.
“They are a huge help,” Purvis said. “It’s fun watching the kids because they’re finding out their favorite parts of the business too.”
A Touch of Home’s decor and furniture are handpicked by Purvis and Hall, many of which are from small businesses around the Midwest.
“We definitely wanted to carry furniture here, and we had a few vendors we knew we wanted to buy from,” Hall said. “We have an upholsterer here in Ohio in Amish Country, and some furniture from Tennessee that I really like.
“Our goal here is to blend modern styles with vintage charm.”
Purvis said her personal favorite pieces in the store are the antique items.
“We have a variety of tastes and styles here and invite anyone to come check it out,” she said. “We have a lot of homemade items and want to keep the store about 80% U.S.-made materials.”
A Touch of Home is on Facebook and can be reached at 419-775-7070. The shop also offers a 3.85% discount for customers who pay in cash.
A Touch of Home is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday–Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
