ONTARIO — The rematch is set and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its final computer ratings and first-round playoff pairings Sunday. Ontario (9-1) earned the No. 3 seed in Region 14 of Division IV and will host No. 14 Clear Fork (4-6) on Friday at Copeland Field.
The Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference rivals met in Week 5 of the regular season with the Warriors pulling away late for a 31-14 win that was closer than the final score suggested. Ontario led 17-14 going into the fourth quarter.
Clear Fork has been to the playoffs more than any program in Richland County. The Colts will be making their 18th postseason appearance.
The Warriors are in the playoffs for the third year in a row and sixth time overall. Clear Fork and Ontario met in the first round of the playoffs in 2010 with the Colts cruising to a 49-7 win.
Shelby (10-0) earned the No. 2 seed in Region 14 and will host No. 15 Elida (3-7). The Whippets are in the postseason for the sixth straight season and the 12th time in program history.
Like Shelby, Galion is making its sixth consecutive appearance in the postseason. The seventh-seeded Tigers (7-3) will host No. 10 Ottawa-Glandorf (5-5).
Division II
Undefeated Ashland earned the No. 4 seed in Region 7 of Division II. The Arrows will host No. 13 Columbus St. Charles (4-6). Ashland will be making its 15th playoff appearance and third in a row.
Division III
Lexington held on to the No. 12 spot in Region 10 of Division III despite last week’s loss to Ashland. The Minutemen (5-5) will head to Maumee on Friday to the on the fifth-seeded Panthers (8-2). Lex is in the playoffs for the ninth time.
Division VI
Crestview will make its sixth consecutive appearance after locking up the No. 14 seed in Region 22 of Division VI. The Cougars (5-5) will play at No. 3 Ottawa Hills (8-1).
Division VII
Hillsdale, Lucas and Crestline all qualified for the Region 25 playoffs.
The second-seeded Falcons (9-1) will host No. 15 Fairport Harbor Harding (5-4). Hillsdale is making its nine straight playoff appearance and 13th overall.
Lucas is in the playoffs for the 11th straight year. The 14th-seeded Cubs will visit No. 3 Malvern (9-1).
Crestline broke the longest playoff drought in north central Ohio, earning the No. 16 seed and a date with top-seeded Western Reserve. The Bulldogs (5-5) are in the playoffs for the fifth time in school history and the first time since 2005.
